COBBA'S NEW HOME
I gave birth to a baby girl the year before last. I never would have dreamed how much work a baby was! In time I found that cobba was not getting the attention and time out of his cage that he was used to and it was eating me up. I could see that it was having an effect on him and i started to feel very bad about this. After agonizing over this for months, I decided to find him a home where he would be out of his cage for long periods, be cuddled, loved and have the company of other birtds for stimulation and sociability. Thanks to this website the right person happened to come along and admire him!
Cobba is now living with this wondeful person in California. I get regular updates, and Cobba is very very happy with her and her other birds. When next I am in California, I will go and say "hello".

HABITS
Cobba has an enormous cage. Actually it is a Macaw size cage which 1.5" spacing which for a Black wing is not too big. It is a Prevue cage which I bought through Hornbecks. He has a favorite tennis ball hanging from a rope and a sock hanging from a rope just off the floor of the cage. He loves to lie under these and play with them with his feet. He elects to go to sleep at about 5pm in winter and 8pm in summer. I know he is tired when he starts grinding his beak and making little chirping noises. He is covered at night, and wakes at 7am. I hear him chirping and talking when I wake.

Cobba loves being on his back and will flop over when on my hand at every opportunity. This is really endearing. I have also rigged up a 'hammock' for him made from a dishtowel. He climbs in and out of this all day and loves to roll around in it. He is a beautiful bird and I can sit and watch him play and chew and talk for hours. He needs a lot of attention. I am home most of the day. This worked well until my daughter was born. More about that on below! |

He has both wings clipped but can glide to the floor without hurting himself. He is really bonded to me and will tolerate a weekend away at his babysitter. However when I pick him up he recognizes my voice before seeing me and will call and want to be held and petted and will regurgitate food lovingly for me.
Cobba is a real charmer and I would recommend the Jardine's to experienced parrot owners who have the time, experience and patience to teach them not to bite, and to spend with them. He loves to have human company and will charm anyone who visits. Jardine's are typically feisty and full of character. On the Jardine list it is called "jattitude"! Jardines and all parrots should never be left alone in a cage for a whole day while their owner is at work. Yes, they will cope. But is this fair? If you are not able to spend hours with them during the day, then even a cage full of parakeets nearby is good company.
